What is Aluminum Closure Stock?
Aluminum closure stock refers to aluminum sheet and coil materials specifically designed for stamping and forming packaging components such as bottle caps, can ends, ring-pulls, and pilfer-proof (tamper-evident) bands. It demands extremely high comprehensive standards in terms of dimensional accuracy, surface quality, mechanical properties, and food safety.
Worthwill has been deeply engaged in the closure stock industry for many years. Covering the beverage, food, wine & spirits, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics sectors, we provide one-stop aluminum coil solutions ranging from alloy selection to customized specifications.

Main Alloy Systems & Specifications
8011 Alloy
Specially designed for food and pharmaceutical packaging. It features excellent formability, low earing rate (≤3%), and outstanding surface flatness. It is the absolute mainstream choice for ROPP (Roll-On Pilfer-Proof) caps, tamper-evident caps, and deep-drawn long caps.
It offers excellent deep-drawing quality and coating adhesion, ensuring high-quality printing results.
- Common Tempers: H14, H16, H18, H44, H46
- Thickness: 0.15 mm – 0.30 mm
- Width: 500 mm – 1000 mm
3003 Alloy
An Al-Mn alloy containing about 1.0%–1.5% manganese. Its strength is approximately 20% higher than 1100, balancing plasticity and formability. It is one of the most widely used alloys for closure stock.
Ideal for beverage caps, screw caps, and pilfer-proof caps that require both strength and formability.
- Tempers: O, H14, H16, H18, H19
- Thickness: 0.15 mm – 0.50 mm
- Width: 100 mm – 1600 mm
3004 Alloy
With magnesium added to the 3003 base, its strength is further enhanced while maintaining excellent deep-drawing formability. It is the industry standard alloy for 2-piece can bodies.
- Tempers: H19, H34, H38
- Thickness: 0.20 mm – 0.50 mm
- Width: 800 mm – 1600 mm
3105 Alloy
Offering higher strength than 8011, it can withstand greater internal gas pressure, making it the ideal material for screw caps of carbonated drinks and mineral water. It supports chromating treatments and DOS oiling, and can also be color-coated and printed on a mill finish base.
- Tempers: H14, H16, H44, H46
- Thickness: 0.20 mm – 0.25 mm
- Width: 500 mm – 1000 mm
1060 Alloy
Pure aluminum strip with excellent plasticity, dedicated to producing vial seals. The surface can be protected via anodizing, coated with clear epoxy resin on both sides, or color-coated (gold, yellow, red, blue, black) on a single side.
- Thickness: 0.15 mm – 0.30 mm
- Width: 30 mm – 1000 mm
- Core ID: Paper core 76 mm, 152 mm, or 80 mm coreless
5052 / 5182 Alloy
Commonly used for beverage can ends, Easy-Open Ends (EOE), and Twist-off caps. These alloys boast outstanding corrosion resistance, high strength, excellent formability, and strong sealing capabilities to prevent leakage.
They are the industry standard for beverage/beer can ends, ring-pulls, and Omnia twist-off caps.
- Tempers: H19, H48 (Can ends) / H14, H16 (Twist-off caps)
- Thickness: 0.22 mm – 0.50 mm (Can ends) / 0.20 mm – 0.25 mm (Twist-off)
- Width: 500 mm – 1600 mm
1070 / 1080 / 5005 / 5657 Alloys
Cosmetic packaging has extremely high demands for surface optical effects and tactile feel. These alloys support deep drawing, chemical/electrolytic polishing, and anodizing coloring processes.
- Tempers: H22, H24, H26, H18, H19
- Thickness: 0.20 mm – 2.0 mm
- Width: 20 mm – 1250 mm
Key Mechanical Properties & Technical Indicators
Earing Rate & Deep Drawability
For long ROPP caps like 30×60 mm, controlling the earing rate is critical. Worthwill stably controls the earing rate of our 8011 closure stock at ≤3%, ensuring a flat skirt after deep drawing and significantly improving material utilization.
Core Alloy Mechanical Parameters
- 8011 H14/H16: Thickness 0.15–0.27 mm | Tensile Strength (UTS): 130–165 MPa | Elongation: ≥1%.
- 8011 H16/H18: Thickness 0.18–0.30 mm | Tensile Strength (UTS): ≥165 MPa | Elongation: ≥1%.

Surface Treatment & Coating
The surface treatment quality directly determines the printing performance and corrosion resistance. Available surface finishes include: Mill finish, DOS oiling, Chromating, Single-sided color coating/protective lacquer, and Double-sided clear lacquer/varnish.
- Food-Grade Safe Coatings: The inner coating utilizes retort-resistant, acid/alkali-resistant, BPA-free epoxy resins. The outer coating balances weather resistance with superb printing effects. Coating weight is strictly controlled (Light colors: 2–6 g/m²; Dark colors: 10–13 g/m²).
- Rigorous Quality Testing: All coatings must pass the "121℃ × 30 mins high-temperature retort test" and "MEK solvent rubbing test, " with a guarantee of no fading or peeling.
- High-End Customization: We support anodizing (exclusive for wine/cosmetics to enhance anti-corrosion and premium texture), as well as embossing and hot stamping for anti-counterfeiting and brand enhancement.
- Comprehensive Delivery States: Available in mill finish, DOS oiled, chromated, single/double-sided coated or lacquered, supporting customized branding needs.

Advantages of Aluminum Caps over Tinplate and Plastic
- Vs. Tinplate Caps: Aluminum is much lighter, reducing freight costs; it contains no iron, meaning scratches won't cause rust that could contaminate contents; its scrap recycling value is much higher, with aluminum recycling rates far exceeding tinplate.
- Vs. Plastic Caps: Aluminum offers vastly superior barrier properties (Oxygen and Moisture Vapor Transmission Rates are near zero); aluminum is 100% infinitely recyclable, perfectly aligning with global sustainable packaging regulations; the metallic texture better suits high-end brand positioning.
